Hair Care

Luxury human hair wigs are a big investment, so we have to make sure that we are taking care of them as such.

Below are tips on how to care for your WasteGyalStyles unit.

Brush hair from Ends to Roots

To remove any knots or tangles, brush the hair starting from the bottom then work your way up to the crown of the unit, to avoid any unnecessary breakage

Use Sulfate-Free Products

When washing, use a hydrating/sulfate-free shampoo along with a moisturizing conditioner.

-- To start off, rinse with WARM (not hot) water *Only use COLD water for curly & colored hair* .. Do not scrub the hair together because that can cause tangles. Instead, apply the shampoo in a gentle downward motion while either laying the wig flat or holding it upright. Afterwards, rinse with COLD water. Apply the conditioner generously. Use a wide tooth comb or detangling brush to comb through the hair making sure to saturate every strand. Allow the conditioner to sit on the hair for 3-5 minutes. Rinse thoroughly with COLD water. After rinsing, comb through one more time & allow the hair to AIR DRY on a flat surface.

Do not overload the hair with products and oils

Using too many oily products on tour human hair wigs can cause build-up, stringy strands and even eventually dry the hair out. Less is more when it comes to certain products.

Protect the hair from heat

If you are heat styling your unit, use a light heat protectant spray to protect the hair from heat damage ("Chi" is a good brand to use)

Keep your wig clean

If you wear your unit everyday, you should be washing it at least 1-2x a month

                  Curly Hair Maintenance

While curly hair is easy to style, it is also high maintenance in terms of moisture.

Your curly wigs NEED to stay moisturized. Use a spray bottle filled with water mixed with a small amount of leave-in conditioner to moisten the hair before combing/detangling. It is not recommended to comb the hair while it is dray as that can cause unnecessary shedding.

The nape of the neck is most prone to tangling due to the heat and friction of your clothing. Making sure that the hair is moisturized will aid in lessening that. For curly/wavy hair our curl potion is a MUST HAVE.

                Colored hair maintenance

Majority of our bright colored units are colored using semi-permanent hair color. This means that the color will fade over time. When washing your colored units, be sure to wear gloves incase and color bleeds so that you won't stain your hands. Be sure to use a color-safe shampoo and conditioner so that the color will last longer.

Shedding

Minimal shedding with all hair is normal. Shedding tends to be more common with curly textures.

Bleached units including custom color and 613 units, have been chemically processed so they are more prone to being dry, thus more prone to breakage and shedding. Key is to use moisturizing products mentioned above to lessen the likelihood of excess breakage.

Wrap your hair when you sleep

If you don't take off your wigs at night, be sure to tie your hair up with a satin scarf or bonnet to prevent tangling.

Lace Maintenance

DO NOT scratch your scalp through the lace. Hair on lace does not last forever and will begin to thin out over time. Scratching the lace will cause premature bald spots. Use of gels/glue/hairspray along the hairline will also have the same effect over time because when you scrub the lace to remove the residue, you may also pull some knots out. Lace replacements are suggested once a year if you wear your unit everyday

Vacation hair

Chlorine and salt water can be very drying to human hair if not washed out. This can cause tangling/matting if left untreated. Ensure that you are properly washing your wigs after being in a pool or ocean to prevent the hair drying out.

Wig storage

Store your wigs in a dust-proof bag, box or container. When storing your wigs away, we recommend combing to get rid of all the tangles, covering it with a hair net then placing it either in a satin bag, a wig bag, or any dust-proof bag.

Wig Revamps

Similar to how cars need to be maintenanced to keep it running well, human hair wigs need to be maintenanced as well. Much like a luxury car, you can pay the most money for it but if you don't keep up with the maintenance, the car will still break down over time. Be sure to book your revamps with WasteGyalStyles when necessary. The more often, the better to ensure proper care and maintenance.
